grades
I've posted the grades for the course in the results section on the course's Noppa pages. Grading was based on the poster, the way it was presented, and the extended abstract. Peer reviews in the learning diaries were also evaluated to confirm that there was indeed a consensus with the my grades and yours.
Overall, I was positively surprised with the level of work you have done, which is reflected also by the relatively high grades on average. I also appreciated the fact that many of you chose an own topic showing initiative and genuine interest. I felt a good atmosphere during the poster sessions and I'd like to thank you all for participating.
Best Regards, Matti

Finalizing the schedule (again...)
Based on the current poll results, none of the proposed alternative dates is suitable for all of you. It would be unfair for students that would be able to attend the sessions according to the original schedule, if they had to miss sessions due to change of dates. Therefore, we will stick to the originally planned dates. After all, those dates were published already before any of you registered.
I have made some changes to the contents of the sessions so that in the current schedule all the presenters on 24.11. should be available. This is based on the emails I've received from you requesting for absence.

moving 24.11. session
There are so many of you to whom the session on 24.11. poses a problem that I would suggest moving it. I propose three dates: Thu 26.11., Mon 30.11., or Thu 3.12. In order to reschedule so that it fits your time tables as well as possible, I would ask you to register by tomorrow (Friday) in the attached Doodle those dates that would be ok for you. Please, leave the box unticked only if you really have other mandatory commitments. On Friday afternoon, I will look at the poll results and make the change in schedule and notify you.

still about schedule...
It seems that there are more of you who cannot make it on the Nov 24. session. So, before I again redo the schedule I ask all of you that cannot attend that session (or any other one) to send me email so that I can finalize the schedule.
I'm aware that many of you take other courses that have also deadlines. However, I cannot adjust the schedule to take into account everyone's preferences, so please don't send me further emails stating that you are very busy on the week that you have your presentation.

revised schedule
I've revised the poster session schedule. I allowed some of you not to be present at the November 24. session which required some changes to the original schedule. So, those of you, please go and check that your poster is now scheduled for another day.

info about poster session
Some of you have asked more information about how the poster session will proceed. So, the idea is that you and your partner will stand next to your poster and explain it to whomever at that moment is interested in it. I will personally go through each of the posters and, thus, discuss with each one of you about your poster. The other students not presenting a poster at that session should similarly go around and talk to the poster presenters and make notes. So, there will not be scheduled powerpoint presentations. However, in order to make life easier for yourself, you can (and should) prepare a short introduction to your poster which helps to initiate the interactive conversation.

preparing the extended abstract
Please, refer e.g. to SIGCOMM's poster session web page (link attached) for examples about how to write a nice abstract for the poster. They are two pages but nevertheless you can get a good idea about how to write such a short paper.

topics assigned
Topics have now been assigned to almost all participants. Have a look at the Noppa page "Poster topics assigned" to see which topic you got. If you don't know how to get in touch with your partner, send me email and I'll connect you. I will post the schedule later this week.

using your own published material in the course
If you are a PhD student and would like to use your own publication as the extended abstract (and thus poster topic) for this course, please note the following university policy: You cannot get credits for work that you are going to use as part of your PhD thesis. If you are in such a situation, contact me so that we can have a discussion about the available options.

missing a class
There were several persons asking what happens if you miss a class/poster session. It is possible to miss one poster session or class if you have a good reason. As a compensation, I would ask you to prepare an essay of (min) four pages on one of the poster topics presented in the session or, in case you missed one of the two lectures, on the lecture topic. In addition, similarly to all other students, I expect you to return your learning diaries on the missed poster session as well by having a look at the posters and abstracts (will be posted online) afterwards.

topic selection
Before the Friday dl, please register five topics (not all contrary to what I said in the lecture) in the order of preference in the Doodle. There's an example entry shown. The topic numbers can be found in the Noppa page listing the topics.

some infromation about the course
This fall, the course will be run as follows: Students will prepare posters and abstracts on a chosen topic in groups of two. These posters will be presented during poster sessions. More detailed information is given in Noppa pages and during the introductory lecture on Wed 4.11. Please, have a look already at the proposed topics before next Wednesday. You are also encouraged to propose your own topic if none of the listed ones seems attractive to you or if you have specific knowledge on a related topic.
