English Course
Participation in the integrated English for scientific writing course
KIE-98.1700 (1cr) is optional, but strongly recommended. Signing up
for the integrated English course is done in the application e-mail
of the seminar. The course focuses on writing scientific English and
the students will receive personal feedback on their texts from the
course lecturer, Roger Munn, who is a native English speaker.
Completion of the integrated English for scientific writing course
fulfills the written foreign language requirement of the Bachelor's/
Master's degree. However, in order to get 1 credit from the English
course, the student is required to participate in all the mandatory
meetings. There is no way to make up for absence.
There are six lectures in total, the schedule and place are listed
below:
1. Tue 8.9. Pre-course essay session (18-19, T2, after the seminar
introductory lecture), mandatory
2. Fri 18.9. 1st lecture (10-12, T5), mandatory
3. Fri 9.10 2nd lecture (10-12, T5, mandatory
4. Fri 6.11. 3rd lecture (10-12, T5), mandatory
5. Fri 20.11. Extra language support meeting (10-12, T5), mandatory
for students who need it
6. Fri 4.12. Presentations lecture (10-12, T5), not mandatory
Also:
Pre-course essay: this essay is a 'diagnostic' task to show your
strengths and weaknesses when writing in English.
It is NOT a test: no marks will be given nor taken away, but you will
get
feedback.
You'll have 60 minutes to write the essay on paper. Using a computer
not allowed, please bring a pen/pencil!
